Use the library as a place to find materials for enjoyment and information

·  Practice proper book care

·  Choose appropriate materials

·  Practice library manners

·  Use proper check-out and return procedures

·  Know and use the Fiction and Nonfiction areas

·  Know how to locate books using the library card catalog (OPAC)

·  Know and locate the reference books: dictionary, rhyming dictionary, encyclopedia, specialized encyclopedia, thesaurus, almanac, and atlas

·  Locate and use the biography section

·  Find and use  periodicals for information and enjoyment

·  Use the Dewey Decimal System

·  Understand the vocabulary of books:  title, author, illustrator, etc.

·  Do research using a variety of materials (books and the Internet)

·  Abide by the acceptable use policy of Ascension School
