Reflection

Designing a website can be fun and addicting but also frustrating. The first hurdle I had to clear was which web authoring tool to use. I chose FrontPage. I’ve made simple text changes to an existing web site using FrontPage but never designed an entire page let alone multiple pages with text and graphics and colors and links and more.

While trying to remember all the design rules from the textbook and find appropriate graphics I had to learn the ins and outs of FrontPage. Using interactive buttons was a challenge to keep organized. At one time I had more button images than you could imagine. Every time I changed a button I got another copy of the image in my folder. Multiply that by 5 or 6 buttons each with 3 images then multiply that by the number of pages. You get the idea.  I did learn that if I could not figure out how to do it in FrontPage I could just edit the HTML code. Usually it was how to undo something I did incorrectly.

I was able to post my website through my school’s web host. At first I didn’t understand the file structure and transferred files into multiple locations. Once it was explained to me I’ve been able to transfer my files easily. The Educational Web and Outside Project were both very time consuming. Luckily I was able to spend my Spring Break continuously working on the projects.

The text book was very helpful and will make a good reference for designing better looking web pages. If I get the chance to work with Adobe PhotoShop the text book contained some great ideas for editing and using them in unique designs.

While I was a bit stressed and panicked at the beginning of the class things began to fall into place. After three weeks I feel confident I know the basics and that with more practice my designs will get better and more creative.
